Bio:
Jim worked for 28 years with the National Park Service in 7 states including Utah, Colorado, Oregon and California. He retired as Chief Park Ranger after 14 years at Arches National Park. He has had experience in many facets of  the Incident Command System from ground-pounding grunt to Incident Commander.  Besides SAR Jim's outdoor interests include hiking, biking, boating and skiing.

Bio:  Trees, fences, rooftops led this Eagle Scout to early climbing on High Sierra granite and other western alpine peaks.  Rigging & rescuing came early also.  Lucky to find Moab, then Grand Canyon Dories.  Rigger for film productions on cliffs, jungle trees and rivers... in any season.  Clever.  No chalk.  Suitable audacity and safety.  Helo junkie.  He is the creator and editor of Silt Happens and was GCSAR Training Officer for three years, 1997-99.

Frank Mendonca

Bio:  A Castleton resident since 1974, Frank established his photo business, Perpetual Images, in 1976. His photography has appeared in numerous books and magazines. Rare leisure time is spent mountain biking, rafting or enjoying some of the best dark skies in the country at his small astronomical observatory in Castleton.  He served 18 years with the Moab Vol. Fire Dept. and was GCSAR Commander, for 3 years, 1997-99.

Bio:  Raised in Moab. College degree in Animal Science, with eight years managing horse ranches in California and Tennessee. Moved back to Moab in 1994 with no intention of leaving again. Works at City Market and the family's pet store/garden center. Enjoys hiking, reading, gardening and baking. Decided in 1980 that the Moab area needed search dogs; finally started training one - Shalla - in 1995.  Nancy and Shalla were recently certified with Search and Rescue Dogs of Colorado (SARDOC).

  A former university instructor, Melissa left San Diego for Moab in 2006. She is a back country mt. bike guide for Western Spirit Cycling and likes to dabble in multisport events. Her free time is spent with John (1T812) and Hasbro the Wonder Dog.

Bio:  1970 graduate of Ohio State University in veterinary medicine.  Happily married to Lou for over 40 years. Daughter, Caryn married to Tim McGinty and living in Moab. Son, Mike married to Becca and living near Mancos, CO.  Volunteer river guide for SPLORE. Special interests include river running, backpacking, technical rescue and skiing in The LaSals.

Tom moved to Moab in 1989 from Park City. He loves everything outdoors and is an avid road bike (bicycle) rider, hunter, fisherman and is beginning to try mountain biking. He was an EMT in Park City for 5 years and currently is a Moab Fire District Commissioner. But the most rewarding activity he does is being on SAR and helping people in less than ideal situations. He is married to the love of his life, Colette and has two grown children.

Bio:  Barbara is active with the Fallen Arches Square Dancers. With over 17 years as a civilian employee of an Illinois Sheriff's office,  she is used to working with officers.  Her husband, Dave, puts up with her anyway.

Bio:  
Born and raised on the East Coast, Margy moved out west for graduate school in 1994 and to Moab in 1999. She works for Outward Bound West and appreciates any excuse to get out of the office, especially if it involves hiking or horseback riding. She is training Katy (a spaniel/heeler cross) as a search dog.

Bio:  New Jersey native, Utah ski bum, co-creator of 800 mile desert backpacking route called "the Hayduke Trail", also a river-runner and photographer.  Lives in Moab with wife Collete, kids Alex and Maddie, and the rescue Malinois Aldo.

Bio:  Jake moved to Utah in February of 1997 and has been in the Moab area since 2009.  Active in both EMS and SAR Jake can usually be found near a radio.  His wife and friends hope this is just a phase that will wear off soon. Jake enjoys skiing in the winter, canyoneering in the spring, and fly fishing in the summer and fall.

Bio:  Ken was raised in Salt Lake City. He moved to Moab in 1994 along with his wife Sally and 6 kids. He frequently suffers from low altitude sickness, resulting in the need to be as high as possible. A scouter, banker, backpacker and gardner, he goes to church on Sunday unless someone is in trouble out there.

Bio:  Wright moved to Moab after 20 years of teaching the sciences at both public and private schools. Because some of his Ecology/Oceanography classes included remote field trips, he became a certified EMT while in NC. Wright enjoys working with SAR, working on biocontrol projects and studying the relationships between non-native tamarisks plants and the beetles released to control them.

Bio:  Auggie's SAR career includes: piloting a Chevy Suburban ambulance to Shrimp Rock (several times); beating jeeps, 4-wheelers and helicopters to the scene on foot (too often to count); raising $1,250 for GCSAR by shaving his head (once); getting lost (once); and bringing tofu to the GCSAR barbecue (every year).

Glenn first moved to Moab in 1976, moved away in 1982 and finally returned for good in 1997.  He retired from the National Park Service in 2006 after 30 years as a ranger doing SAR, EMS and law enforcement.  Glenn still enjoys skiing, whitewater boating, backpacking and other outdoor activities and will until his aging body tells him no.

Bio:  Kris grew up around emergency services, influencing her career path: veterinary technician, child abuse investigator and national trainer for missing children's programs. An MS in Counseling Psychology and expertise in traumatic stress led to 10 yrs overseas working with victims of war and disasters in several countries. She hiked the SW for 20+ yrs before the red rock pull became too much so she moved here in 2001, joining GCSAR in 2004.

Bio:  Bill moved to the Moab area twenty years ago as the Maze District ranger in Canyonlands National Park and has made this town his home. Now happily retired, he occupies his time as a mountain bike tour guide, handyman and search and rescue volunteer.

Bio:  Born and raised with two arms and legs (all rather long) and worked in the outdoor guiding field for over 15 years.  He is now a river ranger with the National Park Service and gets to drive their spiffy new boats up and down the Colorado River.

Bio:
Nathan was born and raised in Ohio but fell in love with the West. He has lived primarily in Colorado and Utah since 1996. He is currently a Park Ranger with the National Park Service. Nathan enjoys a number of outdoor activities such as camping and hiking. He also enjoys  exploring the area on his KLR dual bike.
