Bego Gerhart

Bio:  Trees, fences, rooftops led this Eagle Scout to early climbing on High Sierra granite and other western alpine peaks.  Rigging & rescuing came early also.  Lucky to find Moab, then Grand Canyon Dories.  Rigger for film productions on cliffs, jungle trees and rivers... in any season.  Clever.  No chalk.  Suitable audacity and safety.  Helo junkie.  He is the creator and editor of Silt Happens and was GCSAR Training Officer for three years, 1997-99.

Frank Mendonca

Bio:  A 33-year Moab resident, Frank founded his photography business, Perpetual Images, in 1976. His photos have appeared in numerous books and national magazines. A skillful mountain biker, he's also a rafting and backcountry skiing fanatic. He spent 18 years with the Moab Vol. Fire Dept. and is an amateur astronomer. Served as GCSAR Commander, for 3 years, 1997-99.

Bio:  Raised in Moab. College degree in Animal Science, with eight years managing horse ranches in California and Tennessee. Moved back to Moab in 1994 with no intention of leaving again. Works at City Market and the family's pet store/garden center. Enjoys hiking, reading, gardening and baking. Decided in 1980 that the Moab area needed search dogs; finally started training one - Shalla - in 1995.  Nancy and Shalla were recently certified with Search and Rescue Dogs of Colorado (SARDOC).

Bio:  
Born and raised on the East Coast, Margy moved out west for graduate school in 1994 and to Moab in 1999. She works for Outward Bound West and appreciates any excuse to get out of the office, especially if it involves hiking or horseback riding. She is training Katy (a spaniel/heeler cross) as a search dog.

Bio:  1970 graduate of Ohio State University in veterinary medicine. 1998 moved to Moab from Columbus, Ohio. Happily married to Lou for over 35 years. Son Mike, daughter Caryn and son-in-law Tim, all currently living in Moab. Special interests in river running and technical rescue. Volunteer river guide for SPLORE. Other outdoor interests include hiking, mountain biking and skiing in the La Sals.

  Born and raised in southern California. Retirement gave him a chance to move from the big city. Jim loves the outdoors. He has hunted and fished most states west of the Mississippi.  He is a long time member and volunteer of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Loyal Order of Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bio:
Shawn has lived in Moab for 25 years and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. His hobbies are 4-wheeling, hiking with the kids and working on 4x4's. He is a deputy with the Grand County Sheriff's Office.

A former university instructor, Melissa left San Diego for Moab in 2006. She is a back country mt. bike guide for Western Spirit Cycling and likes to dabble in multisport events. Her free time is spent with John (1T812) and Hasbro the Wonder Dog.

Barbara is active with the Fallen Arches Square Dancers. With over 17 years as a civilian employee of an Illinois Sheriff's office,  she is used to working with officers.  Her husband, Dave, puts up with her anyway.

Bio:  New Jersey native, Utah ski bum, co-creator of 800 mile desert backpacking route called "the Hayduke Trail", also a river-runner and photographer.  Lives in Moab with wife Collete, kids Alex and Maddie, and the rescue Malinois Aldo.

Bio:  Born and raised with two arms and legs (all rather long) and worked in the outdoor guiding field for over 15 years.  He is now a river ranger with the National Park Service and gets to drive their spiffy new boats up and down the Colorado River.

Bio:  Nancy quit her teaching job, sold her house & moved to Moab from Wisconsin in 1999. Since then she has worked for the National Park Service at Arches, initially in Interpretation & now as a Fee Collection Ranger. Nancy also serves as a Dispatcher for Arches and Canyonlands.

Bio:  Auggie's SAR career includes: piloting a Chevy Suburban ambulance to Shrimp Rock (several times); beating jeeps, 4-wheelers and helicopters to the scene on foot (too often to count); raising $1,250 for GCSAR by shaving his head (once); getting lost (once); and bringing tofu to the GCSAR barbecue (every year).

Bio:  Jon moved to Moab with his wife, Paula, in 1992 after a career as an Air Force officer. He is a retired dentist and president of the Utah Dental Association for 2007.  He now owns & operates Moab Photo Tours, LLC. He is an internationally-published writer and photographer.  He enjoys photography, rafting, ATV-ing, Scuba and fly fishing

Bio:  Paula moved to Moab in 1992 with her husband, Jon. She is a dental hygienist, Emergency Room Technician, and an Advanced Intermediate Level E.M.T. She is also a CPR Instructor. She and husband, Jon, have four children. Paula enjoys hiking, rafting, ATV-ing, scuba, fly fishing, reading, sewing, and running ambulance with Grand County EMS.

Bio:  Kris grew up around emergency services, influencing her career path: veterinary technician, child abuse investigator and national trainer for missing children's programs. An MS in Counseling Psychology and expertise in traumatic stress led to 10 yrs overseas working with victims of war and disasters in several countries. She hiked the SW for 20+ yrs before the red rock pull became too much so she moved here in 2001, joining GCSAR in 2004.

Bio:  Cody was born and raised in Utah. He has lived in Moab for 4 years where he is a member of the Moab Fire Department. He has his certification in Aerospace and is  Squadron Commander, Civil Air Patrol, Redrock Squadron.
He enjoys spending time with his 6 kids and with his wife Duckie.
